The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

Nothing like having to prepare for visitors at the last minute!! Today, I got the message... people will be stopping by, get your blog updated. Sure. No problem, I thought. I just updated it.... uhm... when was the last time?  I was tagged me in a blog hop, and sent an email saying "hey there, I tagged you, people will be coming to visit". Ok, awesome. I mean it's an honor just to be chosen. New to-do list: Drop everything. Update blog!  Thank you Riley Darkes for that. ;)

What to blog about? Well one of two things. My writing or my sculpting. My passions. This month has been almost singularly devoted to writing, given it's NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Sucker for punishment I can be, I signed up to write 2000 words a day every -day in the month of November, for Entangled Publishing's "Smack Down" event at Savvy Authors. Woosh what a wild ride it's been so far. I've impressed myself and on most days...writing even while over exhausted and bleary eyed. Even put in a day of 6500 words! Now I'm hoping to top that and reward myself with a viewing of Breaking Dawn. And some chocolate. Who am I kidding, I'm going to see it whether I write another word today or not. :) Same goes for the chocolate.

What is your working title of your book?

Acid Raine

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I spent the summer with a highschool friend following DuranDuran on tour. Ok, so we onky went to 3 concerts, but they took us from our cozy hamlet in Canada to exotic locals like NY New York, and Biloxi Mississippi! Anyway, the idea for this story sprang from those concerts and our eternal fixation with the band members. I mean John Taylor... Simon LeBon... need I say more. (Note to my hubby: you totally trump them all baby). 

What genre does your book fall under?

Paranormal Romance / Urban Fantasy

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I'm horrible with actor's names, so I'll have to do some research there. But in the meantime, here are some photos of what I imagine the main characters look like.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A 22 year old med student plans to lose her virginity to the lead singer of her favorite rock band, to honor a bucket-list promise to her deceased best friend. But after falling for sexy lead singer, she notices a string of paranormal events surrounding the band. She discovers they were involved with her friend’s death, and might be plotting hers.... Yes, I do realize this was actually 3 sentences.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Represented by an agency... or I should say my uber fabulous agent extraordinaire!!

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It's still in progress... the plan is it will take 30 days... or however many days November has. How does that rhyme go again... 30 days hath September...

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Wow, that's a tough one becasue there are elements and aspects I see from a variety of other books. It's a paranormal love story with the classic angst of forbidden love

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Losing a good friend from high school very suddenly and way too young, prompted my summer of Duran Duran. Seeing them (and Prince) in concert had been on my bucket list forever. You have to make NOW the right time I've decided. Why wait. So I jumped into the story and the 30 day challenge of NaNo.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

This isn't your typical predictable paranormal love story... there are some unexpected twists planned for these characters which will change their lives in ways no one could have imagined. At least that's the plan so far!

Manifesting Money!$!

Hello All of you lucky people, how are your manifesting (or rather actualizing) skills? I've been playing with honing mine. The month of August is a month of travel for me, with lots of amazing destinations I can't wait to get to. It seemed like a fun idea to me to manifest some additional cash to take along on these fab trips. So I'm playing the money manifestation game from The Lucky Bitch, Denise Duffield-Thomas. If you don't know her you should, if attracting luck and success means anything to you and you could use more of it in your life.

Here's the idea: Let's just see how much extra money I can generate using the wonderful rules of the law of attraction. I mean I love shopping. shopping loves me, so why couldn't I use a little more? People are often so hesitant about going after money, they use words like abundance and prosperity and such, as if money was a dirty word. Well, I supposed for many it is, otherwise expressions like "filthy rich" and "dirty money" would never have come into being. I love money and I enjoy the wonderful and great things one can do with it, and I believe there is plenty for all.

So, as part of a 10 day quickie manifestation series I've been playing with from Denise Duffield-Thomas, I'm on day 4 and making a public declaration of my intention to manifest an additional $6000.00 or more for my travels and fun this month. How does it get any better than that?What are the infinite possibilities of that showing up for me this month? I'm very excited to see what shows us. So far things have been expanding in ways I couldn't even have imagined, and its only day 4!! What else is possible?

The Myth of the Complimentary Upgrade (+ How to Create Your Own Damn Luck)

Have you ever sat waaaaay at the back of the plane and wished desperately for the air-hostess to tap on your shoulder and say, "Ma'am, could you pick up your bags and come with me?"

And then you'd be whisked straight to the front of the plane, given a cold glass of champagne and enjoy all the pleasures of First Class.

Not sure about you, but if that ever happened to me, I'd be like "So long suckers". Hell, I'd even leave my husband back in Economy.

However, the complimentary upgrade is largely a myth, especially for someone who has paid for a basic economy ticket. The rare upgrade is reserved for the business class people, celebrities, the relative of a VIP, friends and family of the airline staff and frequent fliers.

It's fun to imagine the unexpected upgrade or the lottery win but there's a much better way to create your own First Class experience, virtually guaranteed.

One of the reasons why you rarely go from the cheapest seat straight to First Class is that if you always pay for economy, you're an energetic match to economy. That's why so many lottery winners lose their money. They aren't an energetic match to wealth.

In fact - Everything in your life is a direct reflection of your own self-imposed "cabin class"

You know that old proverb, You buy cheap, you buy twice?

I think it costs much more than that.

During our recent L.A trip, we decided to take a shuttle to the airport instead of a car. It was a difference of about $30. We got on the shuttle which dropped us at the wrong airport, so we had to get a taxi anyway, but still missed our flight (by one minute).

Instead of saving $30, that decision cost us hundreds plus we missed a day of our holiday. We also caused a lot of stress. We made a decision based on price rather than convenience and paid for it.

On the other hand - we paid double for our Universal Studios tickets to get an Express Pass. Right to the front of the line for every ride and worth every penny.

So, how do you create your First Class life from where you are now?


Introducing the Law of Incremental Upgrade

The Law of Incremental Upgrade (coined by moi) states that taking small but symbolic steps to upgrade your life yourself is always expotentially rewarded by the Universe.

Basically, you take a teeny tiny step towards upgrading just one part of your life at a time until it becomes your minimum standard.

The point of the incremental upgrade is that it's small but highly symbolic. It might still feel like a stretch because you're not used to spending money on yourself in that way, but trust me - as you upgrade your life you will attract more money to pay for it.

It's not about spending money you don't have or going crazy and putting a First Class seat or a gold plated car on your credit card. It's about showing the Universe you deserve a better life and you're willing to put some skin in the game.

The upgrade formula

Step one: Choose one thing in your life that's really economy - it could be your hair, your underwear, food you eat, shoes, etc.

Step two: What can you do to take it to the very next level (just to premium economy)?

Step three: Take the action and never go back again.

Step four: Repeat with something else

Such action always gets rewarded and your energy slowly gets used to a higher quality life. You'll get everything on your dream board by the incremental action you're willing to take - no lottery win necessary!

Dream big.... bigger....and even BIGGER still...

What If You Dreamed BIGGER?

I had a reading the other day from a psychic who was most definitely picking up on energies that did not belong to me. It became clear this he could not see the massive potential I had and the directions I was heading in. I've mentioned my publishing targets to people and have been greeted with why don't you self publish. And while I know incredible things can and do happen with self-published works and traditionally published works can go nowhere I had an awareness early on that this novel was going to be traditionally published. Had it occurred to this individual to ask if this was my first book they would have learned I'd written 5 other non-fiction books which I'd already successfully self-published. I have very big plans for my fiction books, and it's a delicate balance of knowing and believing in what I desire and being open to the myriad of ways it can come to fruition.

On another occasion, a multi-talented musician/singer/songwriter who has intentions of performing with an internationally know famous band shared her plans with someone and was given the suggestion that she should be satisfied with performing in a local small town bar. Wow.

When I described my sculpting business to another individual, they suggested I sell my wares at a local craft fair. I almost choked on my drink. Really? That was as big a picture as they could conjure? Hmmmm. How interesting. I then follow it up by thinking the for the suggestion and tell them I did the craft show thing previously and was now working with an agent in California who is pitching my designs to companies like Mattel and negotiating hundred and fifty thousand dollar deals....per doll line. --They are stupefied. I say this not just to brag, (though I'm all in favor of tooting your own horn...come on let's own those accomplishments already!) but to hopefully blow open their worlds and their minds to what is possible. If it's possible for me then it's possible for them as well. And hopefully they walk away from the conversation with an expanded awareness of what they too can achieve if they dare to think and then act BIGGER.

It prompted me to wonder and ask why would I (or anyone) want to take advice from someone who's vision is no where near as expanded as my own? Yes, starting anything new for the first time can sometimes mean starting at the bottom or the beginning or even starting small if that's what you choose. But it doesn't mean staying there or making that the thing to aspire to. Go bigger....beyond what you truly think is actually possible for you to accomplish. And then prepare to be amazed.

I had the pleasure of meeting a wonderful new Creative Energy Consultant coach, Jessi Jordan. She is someone who is successful in multiple industries and she has vision and passion and knows the magic each and everyone one of us can create. She is an accomplished producer in the music industry and also coaches creative people like actors, writers, artists into massive success. Doing Something Different

What would be fun and different for you today? I've been asking that question a lot lately and have come up with some amazing realizations. Firstly how odd it is to even ask a question like that. Usually we focus on what needs to be done, the things that are demanding our immediate attention. And maybe after all of those have been completed and we have a moment or weekend to spare,  perhaps then we will look at what might be fun. My son got on board with this and decided to spend 12 hours getting dreadlocks put into his hair. |They look awesome and he loves them,but it was a huge leap for him. And oh so cute I might add!!

Then my husband tried it and in one moment it was fun for him to purchase the exact motorcycle that he had loved as a teenager. He had magazines and photos of it but couldn't buy it at the time. Well now he has and he goes riding whenever the mood strikes. More joy in his life opens up more possibilities and more space for more joy. Cool huh!?

So what if in every moment of every day we asked that question and let the awareness come up? How would your life be different? What interesting new directions could that lead you in. I challenge you to try it. I have and while those things that demand my attention have lessened, they haven't disappeared, but they have morphed into things that I feel I am now choosing to do instead of feeling as thought they were things I was obligated to do. And where there is choice there is freedom. And things just start magically opening up to more. I have more writing time now than even before.l I have more money flows that ever before. Wonderful exciting things continue to transpire as I keep asking this question. Try it for a while and let me know what changes for you?

I'm going to keep playing and see what other magical things actualize for me!

Planning the Most Amazing Home

 In the house I no longer refer to as my "dream" home since that somehow made it seem like it was far off and impossible to attain, I decided after watching the Harry Potter films (Pottermore is sure to become my next addiction...I just pretend it's my son Ryan who loves playing there) that I wanted an enchanted ceiling in my bedroom. I knew there had to be a way to make it happen. I put it out there and then let it go. Here we are a couple of years later and voila I stumble across this video, compliments of my Pintrest addiction. How amazing is that...totally do-it-yourselfable which I LOVE and creates a stunning effect. I picture it with my bedroom painted in midnight blue with a subtle nebula trompe l'oeil ceiling.

So as I sit here ooohing and aaahing, drooling and scheming, planning and preparing, I thought I'd share this wonderful creation with you. See what happens when you first just imagine it can!? What else is possible??? Remind me to tell you the story of how my good friend Mirta and I scored second row center seats to an upcoming Duran Duran concert!! How can you not adore magic!?

Whose Emails Delight You Everytime They Arrive?

Do you ever have special emails from someone that just brighten your day whenever they come? Messages from my Mom are like that, and so are emails from my husband or my sister-in-law or my closest friends. They arrive and before even opening them I get a little tickle and it brightens my day just knowing they've written to me. Doesn't really matter the content, the reaction to that comes afterward, but for a brief moment, just seeing their name in the "from" address is such a delight.

Well, lately, messages from Denise, my literary agent have fallen into that category quite by surprise. She writes me almost weekly sometimes twice weekly, and although I know I'm far from her only client, it brightens my day getting a message from her and I feel like me and my book are important to her. I see her name and it reminds me of my dream, my target. I feel the elation and joy and excitement over being on this all important next leg of my journey to publishing. I'm reminded that hey, you're doing it... you not only love to write, you're writing and you're heading in the direction you'd like to go. And you're going there. No matter what. And how cool is it that someone else on the planet besides myself (and from my fabulous sister-in-law who hounds me every time I see her to hurry up with the sequel) thinks my books is sales-worthy. Like a special little present I get to open and savour for a window of time. Sure after the message is open, it may be a rejection from a publisher, or just an update on submissions. All of it is welcome becasue it's a powerful reminder that I am a writer and I have an agent.

What's inside each email doesn't almost doesn't matter, because it's the thrill of knowing there's something waiting for me... a piece of news from someone I'm excited to hear from and that in and of itself is worth smiling about. Best of all I know that one of her messages is going to be a fantastic offer from a publishing house or movie studio, equally as excited to purchase my manuscripts and get them out into the world.

How does it get better than that?

Happy Tuesday everyone! So many exciting new things to talk about! First and foremost is my biggest news....I recently received an offer from Denise Barone of the Barone Literary Agency of representation for my Fire and Ice novel.

To say this was exciting does not even begin to touch how I was feeling. It is a wonderful match and I'm thrilled to be working with her. I'm excited about what this journey will bring....what else is possible? Books and Signings and Movies....oh my :)

I had the pleasure of talking with friends who are entertaining the possibility of starting their own business. The first step in making it happen it taking the first step! What's it going to take for you to make a move...one tiny step in the direction of your desires. Already living your dream....well then now is a great time to ask what else is possible? It's so thrilling to me to witness people embracing the possibility of have MORE in their life. More joy, more fun, more ease, more money, more love, more freedom, more of LIFE! How does it get better than that?

What are you reaching for this year? What steps have you taken to make it happen? They don't have to be big steps....and as the infamous Martin Luther King quotation goes, you don't have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step towards your dreams in faith.

I read a great post this morning debating the issue of whether highschool guys and girls could be *just friends*.

Needless to say as a writer of YA lit, it led me back to my own highschool years, reminiscing about the boys I considered "friends" and those who considered me "friends" and those who I called "friend" when it was really something much more. I guess I'd have to land on yes, it is possible, even though most of those close friendships I had with guys eventually (sometimes even years later) developed into something... *more* than just friendship.
those years were such a tumultuous time and I loved ever rocky, dramatic, angst-ridden, heart-wrenching euphoric moment of it. Even if that wasn't the cause during, it's certainly how I feel when I reflect back. So how about you ever give those formative years some deep refection...your relationships with someone you were attracted to or someone you considered a friend but were secretly attracted to....or did you form true *just friend* friendships with the guys/girls in your life? I can certainly say my female friendships have stayed with me for a lifetime (maybe more) and I am still to this day eternally grateful to have met them.

So what are your thoughts on all of it? I know mine make me smile, sometimes roll my eyes and even slap my hands over my face in a fit of OMG embarrassment. But I wouldn't change a single moment of it!

As a mother of a 12 year old son, aunt to 13 & 10 yr. old nieces and a 8 yr. old nephew, a writer of young adult fiction, designer of fashion dolls and a former educator of young children, I have very mixed emotions about the way children are marketed to in our society. They seem to be growing up younger and the media and advertising play into this. But is this a good thing, and a normal part of evolution and change... or a bad thing, a contrived and forced stifling of their innocence and childhood... or perhaps a mix of the two? The Essential 55: Rules to Live By at Any Age

Over the winter break I was looking through some books in my office and came across one of my all time favorites. It’s called The Essential 55: An Award-Winning Educator’s Rules for Discovering the Successful Student in Every Child.  While written a number of years ago, it offers timeless insight for parents and others working with children.  Author Ron Clark, voted Disney’s Teacher of the Year, was confronted with a huge challenge when he found that his 5^th grade students for the year had little interest in learning and were lacking in guidance.  He quickly realized they needed to learn some basic rules.  So, Clark compiled a list of 55 lessons to teach his students that cover all aspects of life, from human interactions and knowing how to say thank you to telephone skills and cafeteria manners.  Those 55 lessons evolved into what Clark calls The Essential 55—guidelines for living and interacting with others.
Here are some sample rules:
Rule #1 Make eye contact.
Rule #6 If you are asked a question in conversation, ask a question in return.
Rule #7 Cover your mouth when you cough and say excuse me.
Rule #9 Always say thank you when you are given something.
Rule #15 Do not ask for a reward.
Rule #24 Keep yourself and bathrooms clean and germ-free.
Rule #25 Greet visitors and make them feel welcome.
Rule #30 After dining in the cafeteria or elsewhere, be responsible for your trash.
Rule #31 In a hotel room, leave a tip for the hotel workers who clean your room.
Rule #33 When meeting new people, shake hands and repeat their names.
Rule #35 If someone close to you drops something and you are close to it, pick it  up.
Rule #41 At home, answer your phone in a polite and appropriate manner.
Rule #43 On escalators, stand to the right, walk to the left.
Rule #49 Stand up for what you believe in.
Rule #51 Live life so that you will have no regrets.
Rule #55 Be the best person that you can be.
After teaching The Essential 55, Ron Clark saw his 5^th grade students who once struggled to read at the 3^rd grade level now reading at the 6^th grade level.  Even more, they were gaining crucial self-respect and respect for others. There’s nothing fancy about these rules—they’re pretty basic.  What a nice reminder though, that some basic guidelines (many are ones that my parents gave me!) can have such a meaningful impact on kids’ lives.

The BEING Telesummit

Well, it's been quite an amazing couple of weeks. Glorious spring weather which followed an almost non-existent winter. Emotional highs and lows and everything in-between. Loads of writing, and releasing judgements about my writing. What I've learned and discovered and awoken to could fill a lifetime of blog posts. Don't worry I'll spare you the details. Suffice to say that since discovering the Access Consciousness techniques of being in question about all areas of my life...well, all areas of my life and have expanded and grown in a very dynamic way.

We have a new site at www.BeingSeries.com where the recordings of the interviews we conducted can be purchased and downloaded. Aside fro that I'm not sure what more to share. Except perhaps that you really have to experience it for yourself. It has brought an incredible new dimension to my writing, to my sculpting, to my business to my money flows and to my life! How does it get better than that? Every day I wake up and ask "What else is possible?" excited to see what comes along next!

Suzy and DOGS: Suzy grew up in Germany in an apartment that did not allow dogs. So she had imaginary dogs she “walked” in the neighborhood. They all had names, which she called out loud, often raising eyebrows of passerby’s. When she was about 12 her first real dog came into her life, which turned out to be a large, aggressive dog, which made Suzy aware that most “problems” around dogs are created by the people they live with.

Later in life, she became a dog walker and had occasions of walking over 20 dogs at a time … off-leash! This exponentially contributed to her knowledge of dog behavior, and most of what she learned, she learned from the dogs! Since then Suzy has been using her abilities to help dogs everywhere. She’s made an appearance on Cesar Milan’s “Dog Whisperer” television show and has her own radio show, “Conversations with Dog” on BlogTalkRadio.

Suzy and HORSES: Suzy co-developed ESSE, the Energetic Synthesis of Structural Embodiment, as a tool for people to bring more joy and comfort to their horses.
