Falling into FALL!

I adore autumn, its such a gorgeous time of the year. Plus the fashion... don't even get me started! In addition to writing fall has had me busy sculpting, lots of new miniature polymer clay food. If you've read my previous posts on my <ahem> little addition, you'll know its somethign I do to release stress and sort of zone out, while challenging myself to create with greater and greater realism. Now I have a studio overflowing with miniature food. Time to start clearing house I decided and to that end have listed a bunch of items in my ETSY store, ONCE UPON A FAERY TALE.

Oh and incase you're working about writing updates, I am chomping at the bit to share my big news with you all. Just a bit longer, I promise (and yes I know I've been promising this for ages already) Good things take time and are worth the wait, right!? Trust me, this good thins is!! And as for book 2, of the Faerie Song Trilogy, well the manuscript has been completed and was sold to Astraea Press...  YAY!!! Sooo, I'll have more news for you soon on release dates cover reveals and the like!

Blog-Hopping on a Sunday

The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

Nothing like having to prepare for visitors at the last minute!! Today, I got the message... people will be stopping by, get your blog updated. Sure. No problem, I thought. I just updated it.... uhm... when was the last time?  I was tagged me in a blog hop, and sent an email saying "hey there, I tagged you, people will be coming to visit". Ok, awesome. I mean it's an honor just to be chosen. New to-do list: Drop everything. Update blog!  Thank you Riley Darkes for that. ;)

What to blog about? Well one of two things. My writing or my sculpting. My passions. This month has been almost singularly devoted to writing, given it's NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Sucker for punishment I can be, I signed up to write 2000 words a day every -day in the month of November, for Entangled Publishing's "Smack Down" event at Savvy Authors. Woosh what a wild ride it's been so far. I've impressed myself and on most days...writing even while over exhausted and bleary eyed. Even put in a day of 6500 words! Now I'm hoping to top that and reward myself with a viewing of Breaking Dawn. And some chocolate. Who am I kidding, I'm going to see it whether I write another word today or not. :) Same goes for the chocolate.

What is your working title of your book?

Acid Raine

Where did the idea come from for the book?

I spent the summer with a highschool friend following DuranDuran on tour. Ok, so we onky went to 3 concerts, but they took us from our cozy hamlet in Canada to exotic locals like NY New York, and Biloxi Mississippi! Anyway, the idea for this story sprang from those concerts and our eternal fixation with the band members. I mean John Taylor... Simon LeBon... need I say more. (Note to my hubby: you totally trump them all baby). 

What genre does your book fall under?

Paranormal Romance / Urban Fantasy

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

I'm horrible with actor's names, so I'll have to do some research there. But in the meantime, here are some photos of what I imagine the main characters look like.

Heroine: Skylar Peyton
Age 22 -first year med student at Oxford University,
-plucky, impulsive, outspoken

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A 22 year old med student plans to lose her virginity to the lead singer of her favorite rock band, to honor a bucket-list promise to her deceased best friend. But after falling for sexy lead singer, she notices a string of paranormal events surrounding the band. She discovers they were involved with her friend’s death, and might be plotting hers.... Yes, I do realize this was actually 3 sentences.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Represented by an agency... or I should say my uber fabulous agent extraordinaire!!

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

It's still in progress... the plan is it will take 30 days... or however many days November has. How does that rhyme go again... 30 days hath September...

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Wow, that's a tough one becasue there are elements and aspects I see from a variety of other books. It's a paranormal love story with the classic angst of forbidden love

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Losing a good friend from high school very suddenly and way too young, prompted my summer of Duran Duran. Seeing them (and Prince) in concert had been on my bucket list forever. You have to make NOW the right time I've decided. Why wait. So I jumped into the story and the 30 day challenge of NaNo.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

This isn't your typical predictable paranormal love story... there are some unexpected twists planned for these characters which will change their lives in ways no one could have imagined. At least that's the plan so far!

Honestly YA: Six authors, One love.: Youuu Got What I Nee-eed, But You Say He's Just a Friend...

I read a great post this morning debating the issue of whether highschool guys and girls could be *just friends*. 

Honestly YA: Six authors, One love.: Youuu Got What I Nee-eed, But You Say He's Just a Friend...

Needless to say as a writer of YA lit, it led me back to my own highschool years, reminiscing about the boys I considered "friends" and those who considered me "friends" and those who I called "friend" when it was really something much more. I guess I'd have to land on yes, it is possible, even though most of those close friendships I had with guys eventually (sometimes even years later) developed into something... *more* than just friendship.
those years were such a tumultuous time and I loved ever rocky, dramatic, angst-ridden, heart-wrenching euphoric moment of it. Even if that wasn't the cause during, it's certainly how I feel when I reflect back. So how about you ever give those formative years some deep refection...your relationships with someone you were attracted to or someone you considered a friend but were secretly attracted to....or did you form true *just friend* friendships with the guys/girls in your life? I can certainly say my female friendships have stayed with me for a lifetime (maybe more) and I am still to this day eternally grateful to have met them.

So what are your thoughts on all of it? I know mine make me smile, sometimes roll my eyes and even slap my hands over my face in a fit of OMG embarrassment. But I wouldn't change a single moment of it!

SIX SENTENCE SUNDAY

This is the final week of tweaking and polishing my novel before I send that baby out into the big bright shiny world . So in honor of that monumental graduation of FIRE AND ICE, and in celebration of the commencement on the second book in the Faerie Song series; BITTERSWEET, I bring you a fresh Six Sentence Sunday snippet.

I'd welcome any opinions/suggestions on this little dance sequence between the YA heroine Loralye and her heart-thob Elven boyfriend Adrius. I can vividly picture what I have in mind, but not sure if it comes across in words. What do you think? (bear in mind I'd just finished watching the movie Dirty Dancing for the hundredth time...check out the mini clip below)

 “I can’t think clearly when you do that?” I said over the steady pump of vibrating bass.

 With another sharp twirl, I was facing him again, his arms locked around my waist.

 “You mean this?” He anchored his hand under my thigh, drawing my leg up around his hip as he dipped me back in a deep plunge. His nose swept the arc of my body and he pressed his lips to the hollow of my throat. My breath hitched as he placed the briefest kiss, before pulling me upright.

 “Yes,” I gasped, breathless, “That.”

New Doll Series

So where to begin.....let's see. How about with some new projects I've been working on. First, the dolls. It's a new series of fashion dolls similar in construction to the Asian ball jointed dolls. I've had the idea on my mind for over a year...finally the pieces have come together....even if all of the dolls haven't yet.

Here are a few preview wip (work in progress) pics. I'll post more as I go and reveal the whole theme of the collection later....just to keep you in suspense.
